

Dr.Mathava Kumar S is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras. He obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Engineering from Govt. College of Technology (GCT) affiliated to Bharathiyar University (in 2000 & 2002), and received his PhD from IIT Madras (in 2006). Subsequently, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan for 4 years, worked as an Assistant Professor at NIT Calicut for nearly 4 years and then joined IIT Madras in 2014. Dr. Mathava Kumar's research interest includes water and wastewater treatment using membrane reactors, emerging pollutants removal by advanced oxidation processes, trace organics and nutrients removal for reuse and materials from solid waste. He has received Young Scientist Award (YSA, 2018) from Academy of sciences, Chennai, and Young Faculty Recognition Award (YFRA, 2018) from IIT Madras. Moreover, he has received visiting fellowships from Univ. of Technology Sydney, Australia (in 2016), University of Melbourne, Australia (in 2020) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Taiwan (in 2014). Currently, he is one of the institutional members for water quality sectional committee (CHD36) of BIS, Member for State Level Advisory Body (SLAB) for solid waste management at Union Territory of Lakshadweep (UTL), and also serving as a member in several NGT committees formed for pollution assessment.
