Abstract
Stability of Iron Ore Berth to handle deep draft vessels is discussed in this paper. The existing berth founding level is (-) 20.25 m and deck top level is (+) 4.40 m. The existing dredge level is (-) 18.0 m CD to handle 150000 DWT vessels. In order to handle 200000 DWT vessels it is recommended to increase the dredge level up-to (-) 20.0 mCD. Reaction from the fender will be more for proposed larger vessels. The existing arch fenders are designed on the basis of quarter point berthing which cannot transfer the berthing load to all the four fenders on each crib equally if the 200000 DWT handled in this berth. Energy-reaction relationship for pneumatic fender is linear. Higher capacity fender is provided, so that the reaction will be less and the crib will be safe. The stability of the berth for increased dredging level and increased lateral forces is analyzed in PLAXIS 2D. © 2019 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
