Dr. R. G. ROBINSON Is a professor at the Geotechnical Division of the Department Civil Engineering, IIT Madras. Dr.Robinson obtained his BE degree from Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu, India, followed by MS and Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. Before joining IIT Madras, he was a postdoctoral and research fellow at NUS, Singapore. His research interest areas are soft clay engineering, expansive soils, physical modeling, and ground improvement. He has guided 16 Ph.D. and 4 MS scholars. His research articles are published in various peer-reviewed and highly rated international journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Robinson is the recipient of various awards, which includes “EBM of the year 2017” for contribution to the Indian Geotechnical Journal, The IGS-Warangal Chapter Biannual Prize for the Best paper on “Solutions to the Problems of Expansive Soils” for the year 2014-2015, IGS-AIMIL Biannual Prize for the best paper published in the Indian Geotechnical Journal for the year 2014- 2015, IGS – Mr. H.C. Verma Diamond Jubilee Award for Innovative Instrument Design for the years 2013-2014 and 2015-2016, IGS-ONGC Biannual Price for the best paper on “Marine Geotechnical Engineering” in the year 2012. He is also active in various technical societies such as the Indian Geotechnical Society.
