An unusual dinuclear chiral iron complex has been synthesized and effectively utilized in the asymmetric hydrophosphorylation of aldehydes to synthesize optically active α-hydroxy phosphonates with excellent yield and good enantioselectivity. © 2012 The Royal Society of Chemistry.
