This paper discusses the power quality survey conducted in the distribution system of Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India. Individual power quality parameters measured from the survey are analyzed and presented in detail. To assess the power quality, measured data are compared with various power quality standards including IEEE 519-1992 standard for the measured voltage and current harmonics. The information obtained from this survey will be useful in improving the quality of power in the Institute. ©2009 IEEE.

Power quality (PQ) assessment has become a major area of interest in recent years because of increased use of sensitive equipments. It is necessary to know the level of disturbances in order to have necessary remedial or preventive measures to avoid equipment malfunction. Power quality surveys play a major role in achieving that. For the study carried out in this paper, power quality monitoring equipments were installed at three industrial sites to record the data. The observed PQ parameters are analyzed, compared and presented in detail. Observed PQ parameters are also compared with relevant standards to understand their severity levels. © 2019 IEEE.

Hence it is important to know the level of these PQ disturbances and understand their root cause in order to find the mitigating solutions at distribution level and also input to equipment manufacturer to improve their product design. For the study carried out in this paper, a power quality monitoring equipment was installed at an industrial site to record the data. The observed PQ parameters are analyzed and presented in detail. Observed PQ parameters are compared with relevant standards to understand their severity levels. Survey of Power Quality Discrete Disturbances in an Educational Institution

In last decades, electronics and telecommunications have known unexpected development; the number of nonlinear loads has increased, along with this the disturbances in power quality also raised. Poor quality in power causes more losses and will cause malfunction, leading to replacement of particular connected load. This paper presents the preliminary results of Power quality survey done in academic and hostel buildings of VIT University. The power quality survey is necessary to record all events over an enough long time interval. Here we collected various parameter readings from all electrical feeders of for different buildings. This paper analyzes the complexities as well as consequences of power quality disruptions. In order to reduce the huge amount of data by recording and analyzing several electrical parameters over certain duration of time, some recording limits as per IEC standards are to be set. For particular feeders where limits exceed the set values, various strategies to enhance the quality of power and minimize the losses are implemented. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

Analysis of Power Quality in Hostel and Academic Buildings of Educational Institute

In bit more than a decade, the electric power quality is continuing to grow from obscurity to a significant issue. Probably one of the most severe problems of the electric power quality is harmonic distortion, and its outcomes specifically the penetration of power electronic based loads, non linear loads, is creating a raising issue for the harmonic distortion, in the alternating current power system. Then the electric power quality is major concern for resources and their customers and both are quickly implementing the viewpoints for improving the quality of power. This paper gives the initial reports of power quality survey done in hostel and academic buildings of VIT University. Here the all power quality parameters readings are recorded and all complexities and consequences of power quality are mentioned in this paper. In order to reduce the large data by recording analyzing on all load over certain duration of time, some recording limits are to be allocated as per the IEC standards, for specific parameters which beyond the limit of standards are considered and various methods to be implemented to reduce the losses and also to improve the quality of power. © 2016 IEEE.

Power quality analysis on academic and hostel buildings of educational institute - part I

The Western Regional Load Dispatch Centre (WRLDC) has been successful in implementing the Power Network Analysis (PNA) sub-system of the Energy Management System (EMS) package supplied by M/s.GE after proper tuning of State Estimator(SE) to ensure that the SE output is suitable for use in real time grid operation. Usage of Contingency Analysis (CA) in real time operation aids in better situational awareness and helps in taking immediate remedial measures for ensuring grid security. The Contingency Analysis (CA) application of the PNA sub-system has already been utilized in developing a lookup table for emergency measures during credible contingencies in the region. The CA is also successfully used in real time grid operation for better contingency evaluation and faster response. The paper describes the CA module available with EMS package at WRLDC and explaining in detail the manner in which contingency management is done using offline and real time EMS tools. The paper also discusses a method of ranking the corrective actions using impact based and risk based assessments. ©2009 IEEE.
