A novel numerical method for LES of high-enthalpy turbulent flows
Published in American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA
2019
Abstract
A novel numerical method for Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of high enthalpy turbulent flows is suggested. A finite volume based compressible Navier-Stokes flow solver is developed. Decaying isotropic turbulence is chosen as a model problem. Dynamic Smagorinsky Model (DSM) for compressible flows is used for LES. Local thermodynamic equilibrium (L.T.E.) based models for air are suggested to account for high-temperature effects on the turbulence. Effects of thermodynamic and transport properties of air are decoupled and studied individually as well as in unison through various physical models. © 2019 by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.
