The Indian Institute of Technology recently held a workshop on the various issues that affect the earthquake engineering profession in India. The workshop focused on the challenges as well as the opportunities that are available for developing an earthquake engineering industry wherein earthquake-related services and products can be conveniently available. The workshop also discussed the current status of earthquake engineering in the country and emphasized the importance of sensitizing policy makers on earthquake preparedness as well as the need for a nodal agency that would coordinate programs for developing the earthquake engineering industry.
