Abstract

An existing validated numerical method based on hybrid finite element finite volume method is employed in the present work to numerically predict the unsteady flow, vortex shedding and coherent structures of flow over a cylinder at a Reynolds number of 100. The pressure fluctuation due to shedding of vortices leads to fluctuations of lifts and drag coefficients. The structure of shedding is presented by plotting the stream line and vorticity contours of the flow at a few number of time instances. The non-dimensional frequency of shedding called the Strouhal number is also presented.
