Abstract
2618 alloy was forged in the temperature range 300-800 K. Hot forging in the temperature range 650-800 K resulted in higher tensile strength and hardness than at lower temperature (500-600K). This increase is due to dissolution of matrix precipitates and retention of solutes in solution which causes solid solution strengthening. The effect of cooling rate supports this observation.
