Abstract
The time domain theory of spectral filters is presented. This theory is based on the selective measurement in quantum mechanics. It is classified into two complementary streams, time dependent and time independent approach. It is observed that the filter diagonalization (FD) method needs almost as much time propagation as the correlation function method, in order to identify the correct spectrum.
