Abstract
Comments made by Martin-Gullon et al on the production of activated carbon are rebutted. The main focus is to study the effect of the operating parameters in a batch fluidized bed reactor. A batch fluidized bed was chosen because it is easy to operate in the laboratory scale and the kinetic parameters are obtained as accurately as possible. Iodine number is a very good parameter for complete characterization of the activated carbon as it can describe the pore structure of a limited range. Burnoff is a secondary parameter whereas reaction time is a primary operating parameters. Because the aim is to establish the effects of operating parameters, all of the results are presented in terms of primary operating parameters.
