Single crystals of β-1-N-acetamido-D-glucopyranose have been grown from aqueous solution by the slow-evaporation method at room temperature. The refractive indices of the crystal have been measured at a wavelength of 632 nm. The linear electro-optic constant r41 is estimated as 1.02 pm/V. The dielectric measurements and absorption studies are undertaken to characterize the crystal. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Linear electro-optic effect in β-1-N-acetamido-d-glucopyranose crystal

X-Ray diffraction analysis of a hydrated N-glycoprotein linkage region model, N1-(2-acetamido-2-deoxy-β-D-glucopyranosyl)acetamido- 2-deoxy-β-D-glucopyranosyl)acetamide (1) and its N1-benzamido analogue 2 reveals very interesting molecular architecture involving seven hydrogen bonds in both compounds and further stabilization of packing in 2 due to π-π stacking. The crystal structure has a two dimensional network of hydrogen bonds formed by infinite chains running along the b-axis and homodromic cycles, intersecting at the water oxygens.

Crystal structure of a hydrated N-glycoprotein linkage region model and its analogue: Hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking driven molecular assembly

In the title molecule, C8H15NO6, the pyranose ring adopts the usual 4C1(D) conformation and the N-acetyl group exists in the Z-anti conformation. The orientation of the primary alcohol group is gauche.

The wavelength dependence of the Kerr constants (R1111 — R1122) and R1212 in KCl: Cd2+ and KCl: Sr2+ is found in the range 290 to 650 nm at room temperature. The studies are carried out for crystals containing different concentrations of substitutional impurities, Cd2+ and Sr2+. Potassium hydrogen crystals have good electro-optic properties that are in order of urea crystal. Trivalent ions doped KAP crystals KAP:M+3 (M = Fe3+, Cr3+) ions were grown using solution growth technique. Optical and electro-optical characterisations on the coefficient r51 were carried out. The refractive matching offered by the KAP:M+3 crystals was investigated. One of the factors causing the observed enhancement in the electro-optics properties is the ligand interactions due the presence of trivalent ions in KAP lattice. © 2004 Elsevier B.V.
