High speed flow diagnostics and flow visualization of precursors and blow out in a shear layer stabilized flame

Abstract
High Speed Flow diagnostics are used to study the precursors and blow out in a shear layer stabilized flame. The flame stabilized on a thin splitter plate, and instability associated with those flames are quantified by means of High speed PIV, High speed Chemiluminescence and Schlieren Techniques. The flame lift off locally because of the high velocity perturbation from the upstream of the splitter plate. Temporary extinction and regains type of events (precursors) are observed during the loss of stabilization. The time duration of precursor and movement of flame is random in different types of fuels. Fuel type is a key parameter for deciding the flame shape. It is observed that there is some three dimensional disturbance forming behind the splitter plate that act as a coming back mechanism for flame stability.
