In the present paper, the microstructure and mechanical properties of a precipitation hardening Al-Cu (2219) alloy subjected to cryorolling, low temperature annealing and ageing treatments are reported. Under optimal processing conditions, ultrafine grained microstructure with improved tensile strength (540 MPa) and good ductility (11% tensile elongation) was obtained. © 2006 Acta Materialia Inc.
