Abstract
An automotive front bumper system consists of fascia, grill, bumper beam and connectors. Bumper beam is a main structural component which is used as a protection for occupants and its nearby components. The static nonlinear analysis is carried out on the vehicle frontal bumper beam for various conventional metals (Steel, Al, Mg, and Cu) and composite materials (GFRP and CFRP) for different thicknesses (3 mm to 6 mm) and velocities (2.5 kmph to 8 kmph) to improve the performance of a vehicle to protect its occupant in low-velocity impact or crash. Based on the results, the optimum bumper design is proposed which is useful for the effective design of automobiles. © 2018 FISITA. All rights reserved.
