Abstract
A study is conducted to present a correlation for separation length, obtained based on the experimental data at various free-stream conditions and shock-impingement locations. Experiments are performed in a conventional shock tunnel where the high pressure maintained in the driver section ruptures a metal diaphragm, generating a shock propagating in the driven section. The test gas is compressed to high pressure and temperature on the reflection of the shock at the shock tube end, which expands through the nozzle into the test section to the required Mach number. Schlieren flow visualizations are obtained using high-speed camera and surface pressure measurements using fast response sensors based piezo-resistive sensors.
