Continuation techniques have been extensively used in the past in the context of bifurcation analysis of nonlinear dynamical systems. Their recent use in computation of constrained equilibrium solutions has, however, brought about a major development in this field of research. Inclusion of equality constraints on the system dynamics, allowing computation of constrained equilibrium states and their bifurcations, has revealed new capabilities of continuation techniques. The aim of this paper is to use a continuation algorithm to compute gain schedules for a stability augmentation scheme that aims to fix fast mode eigenvalues over a range of angles of attack for an aircraft in straight and level flight. © 2003 by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.
