Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) scores can act as an indicator for sustainability performance of organizations. This paper explores an empirical evidence for the relationship binding ESG scores and sustainability performances of firms. We observe and evaluate the ESG performance scores of 1,820 firms globally for 5 years, from 2014 to 2018 on 10 major themes and over 400 different indicators, as listed by Thomson Reuters and is captured from the Bloomberg terminal data. We posit five hypotheses to check the relations binding ESG scores and the total sustainability performances of firms. A Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis and standard bootstrapping using Smart PLS 3.0 software is used to observe the results and to evidence the direct and moderating effects among latent variables contributing to sustainability performances. We observe a significant and negative moderating effect of ESG performances, independently over the all direct relations, considering their relationship to ESG performances. One of the major implications of this research is in the direction of assigning priorities while considering environmental-, social-, and governance-related themes in the implementation of any strategies or policies into practice. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and ERP Environment

Relating Environmental, Social, and Governance scores and sustainability performances of firms: An empirical analysis

The purpose of the paper is to integrate human resource management with supply chain management by examining the role of inter-organisational competencies (information sharing) as a mediator between the organisational competencies (cross-functional information sharing, participative culture and learning orientation) and supply chain integration (SCI). To test the hypotheses of interest, data were collected on 80 manufacturing firms from India through a structured questionnaire and analysed using partial least squares (PLS) method. The findings revealed that participative culture and learning orientation were positively related to SCI and were fully and partially mediated by information sharing (IS) respectively. The study provides evidence for linking competencies with SCI in the literature that are otherwise scarce in the form of empirical studies in the context of supply chain. It also succeeds in examining the role of inter-organisational competency as a mediator, thus providing in-depth insights into such competencies. This study is probably one of the first in studying competencies required for SCI in the Indian context. Copyright © 2019 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Organisational and inter-organisational competencies for supply chain integration

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to study the applicability of a crossover model of work–family conflict (WFC) in the work setting among supervisor–subordinate dyads. It examines the positive association between supervisor’s WFC and subordinate’s WFC and analyses the moderating effect of subordinate’s susceptibility to emotional contagion (SEC). Design/methodology/approach: Data were gathered using a questionnaire survey method and tested in 193 matched supervisor–subordinate dyads from select organisations representing the services sector in India. Findings: The authors found a significant direct crossover path from the supervisor to his/her subordinate’s WFC. The effect of supervisor reported WFC on subordinate reported WFC was found to be strong when the subordinate displayed higher SEC with his/her supervisor. Research limitations/implications: Examining the crossover of WFC contributes to theory by broadening crossover research to include transmission of negative experiences in the work context. This study significantly adds to emotional contagion theory by substantiating the existence of WFC contagion in supervisor–subordinate dyads. Given the constraints of cross-sectional research design, future research should replicate these findings using a larger sample in other cultural contexts as well to generalise the results. Future research should consider using longitudinal data and including information from both the supervisor and the subordinates collected at different points in time. Crossover of positive work–family experiences (e.g. work–family enrichment) and the role of other individual difference variables such as the personality of the subordinates, empathy, etc., could also be considered. Practical implications: Supervisors should be advised of the potential adverse effects of their WFC and organisations should be made cognizance of the impact that the WFC of employees can have on their job outcomes. Organisations should provide the required formal and informal support to their employees to deal with their WFC efficiently. Originality/value: This study has attempted to examine the crossover of WFC in supervisor–subordinate dyads and the potential effect of one of the individual difference variables namely SEC. Exploring the moderating effect of susceptibility to emotional contagion in the crossover of work–family conflict in supervisor–subordinate dyads in India

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to decipher the role of culture in determining knowledge-hiding tendencies of individuals. This study attempts to understand the different strategic factors (SFs) engendering knowledge hiding, model it and finally estimate the driving and dependency potency of these factors in two different cultural contexts – occidental and oriental. Design/methodology/approach: The authors undertook content analysis of the pertinent literature to trace out the antecedents. These SFs engendering knowledge hiding were later modeled using total interpretive structural modeling (TISM) with the aid of R programming language and consequently subjected to Matriced’ Impacts Croise’s Multiplication Appliquée a un Classement (MICMAC) analysis to categorize these factors into: autonomous, depending, linkage and driving. Findings: The analysis establishes personality traits as a common driving factor engendering knowledge hiding in both the cultural contexts. Emotional intelligence is a key driving factor in an occidental cultural context whereas interpersonal distrust drives knowledge hiding in an oriental cultural setting. The task in hand, its uncertainty and complexity are the other critical factors causing knowledge hiding in the oriental cultural context. Practical implications: The study suggests organizations in the occidental setting to streamline their recruitment policy, giving due importance to the personality traits and emotional quotient of individuals. As task uncertainty and complexity are the critical driving factors in the oriental context, the organizations should undertake a delicate balancing act between reducing risk, removing uncertainty and progressing. Originality/value: To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is probably the first-ever attempt to apply comprehensive TISM and MICMAC on knowledge hiding, which characterizes the antecedents of knowledge hiding in two opposite cultural contexts and thereby offers to provide the required impetus for further research on the influence of culture in knowledge-hiding behavior. © 2019, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Knowledge hiding in two contrasting cultural contexts: A relational analysis of the antecedents using TISM and MICMAC

Purpose: This study aims to empirically examine how the perception of social capital in work teams motivates individuals to proactively seek tacit knowledge from teammates and the subsequent impact on individual creative performance. In addition, it offers an empirical validation of interrelationships between the different sub-dimensions of social capital. Design/methodology/approach: A questionnaire-based survey was used, and data were collected from 437 professionals working in the information technology (IT) sector. Structural equation modelling (SEM) using AMOS 22 was used for hypothesis testing. Findings: As per the findings of the study, all social capital dimensions, except shared language and benevolence-based trust, demonstrate a significant positive influence on tacit knowledge-seeking behaviour of employees. The results also provide evidence that point to a significant positive relationship between tacit knowledge-seeking behaviour and the creative performance of employees. Further, a significant positive interrelationship between different social capital dimensions is confirmed. Originality/value: As per the findings of the study, all social capital dimensions, except shared language and benevolence-based trust, demonstrate a significant positive influence on tacit knowledge-seeking behaviour of employees. Tacit knowledge seeking from teammates: unravelling the role of social capital

Canadian media theorist, Marshall McLuhan coined the phrase, “this world is a global village”. The whole world has indeed shrunk through technological advancements and intercontinental technology transfers. However, the nations are still bound together only through humanness amidst diversity and not merely through technological exchanges. We found that most of the prevailing technologies come with an inherent challenge that is tradeoff between cost and affordability. For example, a recent study by World Bank and World Health Organization on expenditure towards healthcare, education and other essentials shows an alarmingly increasing rate on expenditure thereby making affordability to get access to such benefits a critical problem to solve in general. These are also the fields where maximum technological advancements are happening today. Our paper focuses predominantly on this tradeoff especially those challenges faced by senior citizens, super senior citizens, economically marginalized sect of people and differently abled. Our work also looks at the means on how technologies could assist them to live independently and get access to some of the emerging technologies without actually knowing the intricacies. Our purpose is also to bring technology that is affordable, implementable at lower cost and that delivers higher efficiency with maximized reach in society. Being more human in the digital world- technology to touch all, serve all

This study explores how liquidity premium is priced in emerging bond markets and has implications for the investors, because these markets exhibit lower liquidity levels and behave differently from the developed West. Liquidity risk epitomizes higher trading costs, lower trading speed, and higher price impact of large trades. The study investigates pricing implications of these liquidity dimensions across a wide term structure of sovereign bonds. We also identify the most prominent liquidity component that causes yield spread changes and drives investment decisions. Our study comprises nine bond classes, ranging from 3-month to 10-year bonds, across six emerging Asian markets. We observe that the liquidity risk increases along with the term to maturity of the bond. Our empirical results reveal that the price impact dimension is vital for short-term investments. The trading cost and trading frequency dimensions are priced in the medium-term and long-term bonds. It was also observed that investors consider the trading cost as a more important element than the trading frequency and price impact dimensions.&nbsp;

Sovereign Bonds in Emerging Asia: Do Investors Demand Liquidity Premium?

There is an upsurge of research interest regarding authenticity in contemporary tourism consumption as modern tourists have been found to prefer involve in real backstage experiences to participating in pseudo-events and mass congregations. This paper presents a netnographic analysis of tourists’ reviews on village destinations and explores how authenticity is experienced by tourists in a village setting and the indicators pertaining to it. Trip Advisor reviews of three Indian villages were downloaded and analysed. Findings reveal that tourists consider authenticity as a critical factor in rural village experience. Experiencing the real village–a netnographic examination of perceived authenticity in rural tourism consumption

The order acceptance and scheduling (OAS) problem is an important aspect of the manufacturing process, especially when production is carried out on a made-to-order basis with stringent deadlines and limited production capacity. This paper provides an overview of existing OAS problems by considering due date related dimensions in deterministic scenarios. A three-field notation was introduced for classifying OAS problems, and reviewing solution algorithms and complexity results for the same. This research effort proved the complexity results for existing, open as well as new OAS problems with due dates, and additionally, outlined the complexity results for newly defined OAS problems without due date dimensions. Order acceptance and scheduling: overview and complexity results

We develop three parametric forecasting models that jointly estimate the volume component and the choice component of airline demand. These models—JFM-WPA, JFM-PA, and JFM-WTPU—account for (a) demand volume by considering the average demand of an O–D market, booking curve, seasonality and day-of-the-week indices, and (b) customer behavior by including the maximum willingness-to-pay of the customer and the choice attributes of the available options. We use a mixed logit function to formulate the willingness-to-pay and customer choice behavior. JFM-WPA excludes price from the set of choice attributes. JFM-PA considers price as one of the choice attributes. The utilities of maximum willingness-to-pay and choices are combined in JFM-WTPU. We propose a sequential method to estimate the forecasting models. We utilize the data generated by Airline Planning and Operations Simulator (APOS) from real airline historic data. We compare the models and present the results. These demand models can also be used as an input for optimization models, for joint seat allocation and pricing. © 2019, Springer Nature Limited.
