A simple window that yields 6 dB improvement in the first sidelobe gain, with almost no loss in the maximum sidelobe gain, compared with that of Kaiser's near optimum zeroth-order Bessel window, is developed. The main-lobe energy of Kaiser's window is about 0·00078% more than that of the new window. GENERALIZED FAMILIES OF WINDOWS FOR USE IN SIGNAL PROCESSING.

This paper presents a set of windows, called sum-cosine windows, whose first side-lobe level varies from −39-30 to − 67-66dB, while the peak sidelobe offers −39-30 to − 6312dB attenuation. The asymptotic decay rate of the sidelobe envelope ranges from 12dB per octave to 36dB per octave. However, the main-lobe width of these windows falls in between Hamming and Blackman windows and Black-man windows and the optimum windows, proposed by Harris and Nuttall. The distinct advantage of these windows is their simple form, resulting in easy implementation, compared to the near-optimum windows proposed by Kaiser. © 1985 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

A set of sum-cosine window functions

An optimised Blackman window that gives better sidelobe attenuation with almost the same mainlobe energy content as the original Blackman window is presented. The new coefficients yield about 10 dB improvement in the first side-lobe level and almost 4·5 dB improvement in the maximum sidelobe level. Coefficients have been obtained to implement Hamming and Blackman windows in the frequency domain. Two schemes for frequency-domain windowing of the above that require no multiplication or stored constants have been suggested. © 1979, The Institution of Electrical Engineers. All rights reserved.

Optimised data windows

The effects of quantisation on main-lobe width, side-lobe level and main-lobe energy for Hanning, Hamming, Blackman, sum-cosine, raised-cosine family and modified zeroth-order Bessel family data windows are presented for different word lengths.
