A detailed study has been conducted on the effect of different types of thickness profile and thickness variations on the response of a plate. The plate is excited by a uniformly distributed harmonic load. The study is conducted for three boundary conditions, namely (a) clamped at all the edges, (b) simply supported at all the edges and (c) one edge clamped and others free. The results obtained for different thickness profiles and thickness variations are compared with those obtained for uniform thickness plate. © 1992.
