Abstract
The stresses arising in a railway wheel due to an impact loaded are presented in this paper. The wheel is modelled using a string of conical shell finite elements. The response of the wheel to an impact loaded is analysed using the modal superposition technique. The stresses at various locations on the wheel are determined and compared with those arising due to a static load. © 1993.
