Abstract
Taper locks, which are finding increasing application as shaft - hub connections in high capacity belt conveyors and high speed turbines, are analyzed using the finite element method. They are five-part clamping systems which are superior to keyways and shrink fits. The isoparametric brick element is used for analysis. Only one sector of the taper lock was analyzed. The taper lock was analyzed under two typical conditions - when used to connect the turbine shaft to the turbine disk and when used in belt-conveyor systems (axisymmetric and asymmetric loading). Stress variations of various configurations of the taper lock in these two typical applications are obtained. Copyright © 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd.
