Stiffness evaluation and damage quantification of beams using knowledge based finite element approach

A typical beam element in two dimension is chosen which incorporates the damageparameters (spread, location and intensity of the damage) in its stiffness matrix. Aprogram in MATLAB (7.0) was generated to analyze the system using finite elementtechnique. For that element, the intensity of damage is given as a main parameter,without quantifying or qualifying the type of damage. A general methodology ispresented for identifying stiffness reduction by incorporating the results obtained fromthe finite element method with fuzzy logic. © 2013 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
