Tripods of matched/mismatched sizes lead to a macrobicyclic/macrotricyclic cryptand in high yield by Schiff base condensation at 5° C in the absence of any templating metal ion.
A new macrotricyclic cryptand has been synthesized in high yields using a novel strategy.
