Performance simulation of ion-exchange waveguides

Abstract
We describe a method to calculate the modal field of the ion-exchange waveguides and to find the coupling efficiency of these waveguides with fibres. Various optical glasses were characterized to obtain the coefficient of diffusion and maximum change in refractive index in them. These values are then used in the simulation of ion-exchange process. The results of modal field and the coupling loss calculations for these waveguides are presented.
