On-line fault detection and diagnosis of a refinery process

This paper describes a model-based approach for fault detection and diagnosis of closed-loop dynamic systems using finite automaton tables. Given dynamic equations of a process, finite automaton tables are automatically generated to describe possible discrete state transitions for normal operation and faulty conditions, and then serve as input to the fault detection and diagnosis algorithm. This paper also presents software implementation architecture for this approach and applies it to a refinery process simulation. The result shows that faults can be on-line detected and diagnosed. © 2003 International Federation of Automatic Control.
