Numerical simulation of double forward facing step with obstacles of different axis ratio

Fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in a double forward facing step in the presence of elliptic shaped obstacles with different axis ratios positioned before each step is numerically investigated. For the purpose, governing equations of fluid flow and heat transfer are solved in cartesian framework using an in-house code based on Streamline UPWIND/Petrov Galerkin (SUPG) finite element method. The parametric study is carried out for various Reynolds number (Re=300,500,800 and 1000) and different axis ratios of the obstacles (AR=0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1). It is observed that fluid flow pattern is altered due to the presence of obstacles near the steps and the reduction of the recirculation length when compared with no obstacle case. © 2018 by the authors of the abstracts.
