The crash behavior of Cold Rolled Mild Steel (CRMS) closed form thin section was studied by conducting compressive tests at loading velocities of 5 mm/min and 1000 mm/min. The numerical simulations were conducted for the same experimental conditions to understand the deformation shape, peak forces and energy absorption capacity of sections at different impact velocities. The simulation results correlated well with the experimental results. © 2010 American Institute of Physics.
