In this work, the primary and secondary tensile strength components of human femur bone are qualitatively assessed using image processing and texture analysis. The tensile regions in planar radiographic images (N = 100) are delineated by image processing procedure. Second-order statistical texture parameters are derived from GLCM. The results show that the grey level intensities are dispersed along the main diagonal in normals and minimum intensity dispersions are found in abnormals. Higher degrees of correlation were observed for abnormal images. The variations are more significant for secondary tensile region. These parameters thus appear useful to analyse femur bone strength from radiographs. Copyright © 2010 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.
