Abstract
In this work, we demonstrate modal decomposition of output of a graded index few-mode fiber (FMF) that supports three modes. The scalar modes are simulated using finite difference method (FDM) are mixed in different proportions in order to emulate the output of the FMF and the mixing proportions are recovered successfully using the Stochastic Parallel Gradient Descent (SPGD) algorithm. Both the modal weights (ρ) and relative phase angles (ϕ) are determined iteratively using this algorithm. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
