Abstract
The potential of mixed models in finite element analysis is critically reviewed to serve as an aid for researchers. The need for and the development of mixed models together with a comparison with displacement and equilibrium models and the variational principles adopted are discussed. The application of mixed models to problems of plane elasticity, incompressible solids, plates, shells and also the equivalence between mixed and displacement models are reviewed and presented. © 1994.
