Abstract
With the increased number of flood frequency models presently available in literature, it is worthwhile to have a relook at the selection of the flood frequency models for Indian catchments. Twenty eight flood frequency models have been fitted for the annual extreme value series for each of the twenty three river gauging stations selected from Indian catchments. Two variations of chi-square goodness of fit (GOF) test namely, chi-square equal slice length test, chi-square equal probability area test, have been used to evaluate the performance of the twenty eight models considered. Based on the GOF test results obtained, Gumbel-MOM, LN2-ML, and Gumbel -PWM models have been suggested for use in the design of flood control structures for the Indian catchments.
