Abstract
This paper summarizes the fundamental concepts of second-law analysis of energy systems and processes, with special reference to energy resource conservation. The distinction between the analyses based only on the first law, and taking the second law also into consideration is explained. The fundamental concepts of availability and exergy are clearly expounded. Author concludes that rational guidelines for achieving energy resource conservation can result only through second-law analysis of the energy systems and processes.
