Abstract
Name service is a facility which provides user-friendly names for application processes. This helps us to refer application processes by names instead of addresses which are difficult to remember and use. In an OSI environment, the directory will be the logical place to hold the information required for providing name services. The various issues involved in providing name services using the directory are presented. The implementation and performance evaluation of such a name service are also described. © 1994.
