Abstract

The aim of this paper is to find out the increase in energy dissipation by adding pseudoelastic shape memory alloy (PE-SMA) in glass fibers reinforced (GFRP) composites. Nature of loading is quasi-static, performed multiple times until material fails completely and indenter goes inside the sample. This is done to find out the alteration in the ultimate failure load due to the addition of SMA. It also gives the pattern of degradation in energy dissipation and stiffness over the number of cycles in both GFRP and SMA/GFRP samples. Reduction in the effective properties exhibits the advantages of embedding SMA. © 2018, © 2018 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
