A two dimensional dynamic model for an anode-supported tubular solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) was presented. The model was validated using data from a commercial SOFC over a wide range of cell temperatures, reactant flow rates, DC polarizations and amplitudes of step. Processing of the data by implementation of the filters for noise reduction and the strategies adopted for validation of the model will also be presented. The varying gains of the system depending upon the operating conditions and the directionality of the step were examined. The results were used in the synthesis of a second-order Volterra-model based controller. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the AIChE Annual Meeting (Salt Lake, UT 11/4-9/2007).
