In the present study we report some measurements of the velocity of acoustic waves generated by photoacoustic effect using a pulsed ruby laser in benzene, chlorobenzene, carbontetrachloride and acetone in the pure form using delay time technique. These values are compared with the measurements made by making the media absorptive by adding cryptocyanine dye at low concentration. It is found that there is an excellent agreement in the results obtained from these two methods and agree very well with those values reported earlier using conventional methods. © 1995.
