Abstract
Hydrogen bromide, one of the products of the bromination of aromatic substrates, acts as a catalyst as well as an inhibitor in carbon tetrachloride. A detailed investigation on the kinetics and mechanism of the bromination of phenols of different reactivities in carbon tetrachloride has revealed that structural features of the substrate determine the mechanism in these reactions. © 1974, Walter de Gruyter.
