Abstract
In this paper, the sensory behaviour of magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) materials is presented under transient mechanical loading using a finite element method. The sensor is bonded on the top surface of a mild steel beam. Numerical results are presented for different sensor locations along the length of a beam, subjected to clamped-free and simply supported boundary conditions. A transient sensory response of PZT-5 and (Terfenol-D)-epoxy mixed components (MSCP) is also studied. Ansys 8.1 is used to validate the sensory response (i.e. displacement and electric potential) of PZT-5 with the computer code. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
