We demonstrate an all-optical digital half-subtracter/adder that performs bit-wise subtraction and addition of two binary data streams. Two SOAs and a periodically-poled lithiumniobate waveguide generate Borrow, Difference/Sum, and Carry outputs with maximum 1.0-dB power penalty. © 2005 Optical Society of America.
