AgOTf proved to be an effective catalyst for the transesterification of β-keto esters with primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols. The products were obtained in high yield within a reasonable reaction time period. A variety of sulfides were converted into the corresponding sulfoxide derivatives with 70% tert-butyl hydroperoxide in water as the oxidant in the presence of catalytic quantity of silver nitrate.
