This paper critically compares two methods that have appeared earlier, for solving elastic contact problems with friction. The programming techniques that have been incorporated to optimize each of these methods have been detailed. Three examples have been used for comparison, and the core and time requirements have been included. Some of the limitations of each method and observations made during implementation have been mentioned. © 1991.
